Service users' forum
Salford Drug and Alcohol Forum first met in April 2007. Since then a group of service users have been working with Salford's Service User Development Worker to develop the group.
The forum aims to achieve the following for people in Salford who have, or have had, drug and/or alcohol problems:
- To provide a voice
- To develop peer support projects
- To provide information and signposting to services
- To develop partnerships between relevant agencies to share information and increase awareness of drug and alcohol services and issues in Salford
- To provide support and advocacy
Achievements so far include:
- Being part of a Greater Manchester working group that organised the first Greater Manchester Service User Conference in October 2007
- Producing 2 newsletters featuring articles from drug and alcohol service users
- Moving into an office at Grumpy Salford
- Recruiting 100 members from across Salford's drug and alcohol services
- Forming a management committee made up of current and former drug and alcohol service users
- Writing a constitution for the Forum
- Attending meetings with a range of professionals including Salford Drug and Alcohol Action Team, Salford Substance Misuse Services and Lifeline.
The groups future aims include:
- Developing the Forum's membership and making further links with relevant services, particularly with drug service users
- Developing aftercare support for people with drug and alcohol problems
- Developing a website for the Forum
