SFRA river flooding maps

A large number of maps have been produced as part of the Level 2 / Hybrid Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA) for Manchester, Salford and Trafford (MST). The most important river flooding maps are available to download from this page.

These maps show the depth of river flooding which could be expected under one particular scenario. The 1 in 100 year flood maps show predicted flood depths across the city, whereas the detailed information for the more serious events is only available for the Irwell and the Manchester Ship Canal.

The model used to produce these maps uses a scenario involving failure of one of the sluice gates on the Manchester Ship Canal, which raises flood levels not just on the Ship Canal but also on other watercourses which flow into it. As such, this is judged to be a precautionary scenario. It is the best available information on flood risk for strategic planning purposes. Developers with sites within flood risk areas will need to contact the Environment Agency to get detailed flood levels for their sites.
