Smoke-free pregnancy

No matter what stage of pregnancy you're at, even if you're just thinking about trying for a baby, stopping smoking is the most important thing you can do to give your baby the best start. It will also help improve your own health too.

Get the facts so that you can make the choice for you, your baby and your family. Sometimes choosing to stop smoking can feel difficult, with information and support you can do it. You're not on your own - we are here to help you.

For you and your baby, it's never too late to quit, or too early to become a smoke-free family!

Benefits of going smoke-free

  • There'll be less chance of your baby being born underdeveloped or poorly.
  • You'll be free of feeling guilty.
  • You'll have a healthier, happier pregnancy.
  • You'll have more money to spend on baby things.
  • You'll have more energy.
  • Everybody will stop nagging you and staring at you.
  • You'll be free!

What's available to help me quit?

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) - Many health professionals believe that NRT is a much safer option for a growing baby than the 4,000 chemicals they are exposed to if you smoke. The nicotine in NRT is thought of as 'clean' nicotine and is present in smaller doses than the amount taken in when smoking. Using NRT makes the chance of a successful quit attempt higher.
