Higher Broughton Regeneration Area (SPG5)

(Approved - September 2003)
The purpose of this document was to support the regeneration of an area of Higher Broughton, between Broom Lane, Devonshire Street, Bury New Road and Leicester Road.
The council is promoting the comprehensive redevelopment of this area to bring new investment over the next 5 years.
The investment aims to provide better housing, facilities for the local community, including better quality sports facilities and public open space.
The document provided a framework for considering planning applications for the area and was used to support any necessary compulsory purchase orders and highway closures.
It contained an indicative master plan for the area, details of the background to the project, an explanation of how the proposals fit with national and local planning policy, and information on the issues the council expect to be addressed in any planning applications.
A Compulsory Purchase Order for part of the area was confirmed in August 2004 and development of the first phase of new housing has been completed.
Under the new planning system it is not proposed to review or update this document as it is considered that adequate guidance is provided elsewhere.
