Adult sailing courses

The sheltered waters of Salford Quays provide the ideal sailing waters for learning the basics of Dinghy Sailing. Courses that we offer are RYA Levels 1 and 2 and RYA Seamanship Skills. Our dedicated team of instructors will guide you through the various stages of your course. We offer sailing courses in either single handed dinghies or crewed dinghies. Each option will give you a different sailing experience but you will follow the same syllabus in your course.

The table below should help you decide whether to do your course in single handed dingies or crewed dingies:

Sailing - RYA Level 1

This course provides a relaxed and enjoyable introduction to sailing in safe condition. By the end of the course you should be able to confidently sail a dinghy single-handed under supervision. Boats used on this course are Laser Picos or Laser Stratos.

Laser Pico

Sailing - RYA Level 2

Learn more about dinghies and how to deal with a challenging variety of sailing conditions. Learn about the five essentials and basic seamanship skills required to start gaining the skills required to sail a dinghy independently. It is a pre-requisite that candidates must have completed a level 1 course.

Dinghy racing

Sailing - RYA Seamanship Skills

This new course is run in crewed dinghies. This course will equip sailors with the necessary skills to sail a dinghy in a seamanlike manner, making seamanship decisions in moderate conditions. This course is ideal for any dinghy sailor looking to go cruising, racing or wanting to become an instructor.

Skills that will be covered include anchoring, reefing afloat, sailing without a rudder as well as improving your general sailing.

It is a prerequisite that candidates must have completed the level 2 course with ideally a season of regular sailing in between.
