Under 16s courses
We offer a range of exciting watersports and outdoor activity courses for the under 16s during the school holidays. You can take part in an aqua activity course where participants will try a different watersports each day. Alternatively we offer sport specific courses where you do the same sport for the whole duration of the course and work towards a national governing body (NGB) award. These courses also provide the ideal opportunity to gain relevant experience prior to joining one of our clubs.
We are offer supervised lunch breaks during the summer holidays at a cost of £25 for the week. This is ideal for those who would like their children to stay all day on morning and afternoon courses. Food is not provided, you will need to provide a packed lunch. Please enquire when booking onto a course.
Please note that if you intend for your child to stay at the centre all day by taking part in two separate morning and afternoon courses, then they must either be supervised by a parent/guardian at lunch time, or booked onto the supervised lunch session.
Age ranges are guidelines, it is up to parents to decide if a course is suitable for their child.
To book onto any of these courses simply print off a copy of the course booking form from our downloads page and return by post with full payment for your course. Cheques should be made payable to 'Salford Community Leisure Ltd'. You can also phone the centre and book and pay over the phone.

Dinghy sailing
Salford Quays is an ideal location for fun and adventure during the school holidays. Our fleet of Optimists, Tazs and Picos, together with first class tuition provide the very best learning platform to progress in the sport of sailing. On our courses you will work through the various stages of the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Youth Sailing Scheme.

Throughout the course, our coaches will lead you through the structured syllabus of the RYA Stage One as well as offering plenty of opportunity for fun and games. By the end of the course you will have had a basic introduction to dinghy sailing and hopefully the desire to continue and learn more about the sport. This course builds on skills acquired during stage one. Learn more about dinghies and how to deal with a challenging variety of sailing conditions. You will also experience the thrills and spills of capsizing and an insight to racing.

Advance your skills even further with this challenging course. By the end of this course, you should be able to call yourself a competent sailor, rather than a beginner. It is a prerequisite that candidates must have completed a stage two course.

The course gives sailors who already hold their RYA stage 3 certificate the chance to learn even more skills, but this time using double handed dinghies. Boats used on this course could include RS Fevas, RS Visions and Laser Stratos.

This fast and exciting course gives youngsters the chance to learn how to drive our powerboats. The course is run under close supervision of an instructor providing a safe and fun introduction to powerboating. Minimum age is 12.

Kayaking
The British Canoe Union (BCU) Paddle Power scheme is ideal for those youngsters keen to get out on the water paddling. Candidates will be given a Paddle Power logbook to have the various sections ticked off. On the course you will work through the various levels of each award. If by the end of the course you don’t manage to complete all the levels to gain the award, you can join Salford Canoe Club. Here you will get the chance to put your new skills into practice and complete any outstanding sections.

The sheltered waters of Salford Quays provide youngsters with the perfect spot to get out on the water in a kayak. The Paddle Power Passport course covers levels 2 to 5 of the scheme. Once this certificate is gained, participants may then join our canoe club.

These courses are all about fun, ideal if you are not sure what sport to try. You can expect a taste of kayaking, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, and raft building. These have proved very popular in previous years so to avoid disappointment book early.
Rock climbing
National Indoor Climbing Achievement Scheme (NICAS): price £60

The NICAS is a fun introduction to foundation skills in climbing movement and belaying techniques. This course covers levels 1 and 2 of the scheme. The course is based on Salford Watersports Centre’s indoor climbing wall.
Introduction to outdoor rock climbing days (age 12 upwards) - price £50
This one day course is open to both adults and children. It is ideal for either complete beginners, or those with a little experience to bridge from climbing wall to real rock. The course will cover the very basics of what you need to know to be able to work safely on real rock and give you an idea of the sport in its truest form.
