Salford Sports Council

Salford Sports Council

The Salford Sports Council was formed in 1974 with the introduction of local government reorganisation.

Over the last few years the membership had decreased to only a handful of people and the group had no real aims to work towards. In May 2002 the Salford Sports Council had a re-launch. It was agreed at this meeting that all Salford-based sports clubs affiliate to the Salford Sports Council.

The number of affiliated clubs is 107 and growing all the time These clubs now have a forum to voice their views to the city council on what they need to develop their sport/club in Salford. Also they can offer help and advice to each other and share good practice.

The principal aim of Salford Sports Council is to 'advance sport in Salford' and in doing so provide the best possible support to the borough's clubs. It will play a key role in the provision and development of sport in Salford and will work closely with officers of the Sport, Health and Community Leisure Team, Salford Community Leisure Ltd and the council's elected members to achieve this.
