Salford Sports Council Sports Awards Dinner

This year's Sports Awards Dinner (the fifth) was held at Ellesmere Sports Club on Friday 8 February at 7.00pm.
The evening was very well attended with over 90 people enjoying their 3 course dinner and presentation of the Salford Sports Council Sports Awards for 2007.
Mark Chew, Head of Sport, Health & Community Leisure Team, was Master of Ceremonies and introduced the awards and winners.
All the clubs affiliated to the Salford Sports Council were circulated nomination forms earlier in the year. Each club could nominate one person/club from each category.
A judging panel was set up to review each nomination and decide on the winners.
The judging panel consisted of:
- Mark Chew - Head of Sport, Health & Community Leisure
- Paul Thomas - Secretary of Salford Sports Council
- Mark Dutton - Chair of Salford Sports Council
- Janet Morecroft - Principal Sports Development Officer
- Natalie Craig - Sports Equity Officer
- John Bowmer - Vice Chair of Salford Sports Council
- Jo Reilly - Volunteer & Training Development Officer
The Salford Sports Council Award winners are:
- Club of the Year - Deans Youth & Ladies FC
- Club of the Year - Runner Up - City of Salford Swimming Club
- Coach of the Year - Trevor Tuck - Deans Youth & Ladies FC
- Volunteer of the Year - Kathrin Weber - Oakwood Sports Club
- Unsung Hero In Sport Award - Chris Grimshaw - Deans Youth & Ladies FC
- Sports Achiever of the Year - Luke Wood - City of Salford Swimming Club
- Disabled Sports Achiever of the Year - Richard Howard - City of Salford Swimming Club
Each individual winner was presented with a plaque and certificate. The club of the year winner was presented with a plaque, certificate, annual trophy and a cheque for £500.
Greater Manchester Sports Awards 2007
Congratulations to Luke Wood who won the Greater Manchester Sports Achiever of the Year Award on Friday 11 April 2008 at the City of Manchester.
Well done to all the Salford winners who attended on the night and here is a list of Greater Manchester winners:
