Submitting an application

There are a number of different types of applications which can be submitted including full planning permission, outline planning permission, a change of use of land or buildings, confirmation of compliance with conditions, applications for a non-material amendment.

The appropriate forms and details of fees can be accessed via the links below.

Applying online saves the expense and hassle of traditional paper applications. You can apply online using the Planning Portal.

It is important that you provide accurate drawings with sufficient detail to illustrate your proposal to both the council and the general public. These must be to a recognisable metric scale.

There are requirements for what must be submitted as part of a planning application. These are set out in the council's adopted validation checklist which is available from the link on this page.

There are a number of different forms for different types of development. It is important that you choose the correct form and fully complete all the sections on the form that is relevant to you. Application forms are available online, but please check with us if you are not sure which form to use.

For forms on pre application and house extension and change of use prior approvals, visit our pre application advice page.

The decision to charge for planning applications has been made by Parliament and therefore the scale of fees is the same throughout England and Wales. The fee should be paid at the time the application is submitted. Payment can be by crossed cheque, payable to Salford City Council or over the telephone on 0161 779 6195.

You can calculate the fee of your planning application using the fee calculator available at the planning portal.
