Accreditation

All non-statutory providers funded by Supporting People have to be accredited. The Department for Communities and Local Government guidance means that:

  • All independent sector providers must be accredited.
  • Contracts are invalid without an up to date accreditation certificate.
  • The purpose of the accreditation process is to ensure that the organisation is capable and competent of delivering services to specific customers.

The five criteria are as follows:

  • Criteria one: Financially viability
  • Criteria two: Competent administration procedures
  • Criteria three: Effective employment policies
  • Criteria four: Robust management
  • Criteria five: Competence/track record

Criteria two, three and four may be passported in some instances. However, both one and five must always be assessed in full.
