Payments and fairer charging
Do you have to pay for the support you receive?
Some support services do not charge for the support they provide. However a number of services require you to contribute either fully or partly to the cost, depending on your circumstances.
- If you get housing benefit for your rent (not council tax) you will not be asked to pay for your support
- If you do not get housing benefit you may be required to pay for some or, all of your support
If you don't get Housing Benefit but are struggling to pay for the support you receive, you may still qualify for a reduction or even the full amount by completing a charging assessment form (however if you are a Care on Call customer please see below).
The charging assessment form
The charging assessment works out how much you can afford towards the Supporting People services you receive. We will also check that you are getting other benefits you are entitled to. The assessment is normally done in your own home and a friend or relative can be with you while the assessment is done. The assessment is the same one used to work out how much people should pay towards any social services they receive. For more details about the assessment please read the social services assessment leaflet below.
Your warden or support worker will be able to tell you about how to complete a charging assessment form or you can ring the Supporting People Team directly on 0161 793 2220.
Alternatively you can print out the form fill it out and post back to the team.
Care on Call customers
If you have Care on Call (mobile warden service) and qualify for Council Tax benefit, then you will automatically be entitled to the Supporting People subsidy without having to go through the Charging Assessment.
Further information is available on the Supporting People payments page.
