Service performance indicators (SPIs)

The department for communities and local government (DCLG) requires Supporting People teams to submit quarterly information regarding performance indicators (PI).

These are national PIs and are mandatory. Some of these indicators are included in the comprehensive performance assessment for the local authority.

Performance data is used by the government to assess how well the Supporting People programme is meeting its objectives in delivering positive outcomes for vulnerable service users.

Salford are committed to ensuring that this is not just a data collecting exercise but a way of measuring performance, indicating trends and providing details that help Supporting People in Salford to ensure that services are relevant and of high quality.

The team will visit you in order to validate your PIs, so please ensure that you keep an audit trail by ensuring information is well documented.

Performance indicators are part of a performance management framework and include:

Service performance indicators (SPI)

  • SPI 1 Availability
  • SPI 2 Utilisation
  • SPI 3 Staffing (no longer mandatory)
  • SPI 4 Throughput
