A Taste of Salford

A Taste of Salford

A Taste of Salford on 3 September 2011 was a great success with over 4,000 people flocking to the event on Salford Civic Centre's lawns. Local history tours, Zumba sessions, birds of prey and information about council services were just a small sample of the activities on offer that made for a great day out for the whole family, celebrating everything that makes Salford great! Thank you to everyone who came along and joined in the fun.

Fun for kids

There were plenty of children's activities, from vegetable decorating to competitions. 500 gingerbread men were expertly decorated and enjoyed. There were scramble nets, exercise equipment and rugby tasks to burn off energy.

There was entertainment from Mr Bloom, the green-fingered gardener as seen in the CBeebies series 'Mr Bloom's Nursery' who put on a great performance singing and dancing with his veggies for over 300 fans.

Food and drink

The best in regional food and drink was on offer, giving a real taste of Salford. The Mark Addy served up refreshing pints of pink Salford Festival Ale, Ginger's Comfort Emporium dished out sublime scoops of Eccles ice-cream and there were endless foodie delights on offer from stall holders, to tickle your taste buds.

Cake competition

The cake competition was won by Ashwini Nanjappa who impressed judges with a delicious marbled cake, with decoration inspired by the Salford Food and Drink Festival.

Local democracy

As well as all this, councillors were on hand for a chat and representatives from the council and partner organisations including the police, fire service and NHS took part in a question time session - giving you the chance to put questions to the decision makers in Salford.
