Theatre

Any premises which are to be used for the public performance of a play, whether for payment or not, must hold either an annual theatre licence or an occasional theatre licence.

An annual licence is usually applied for when a number of plays are performed on a number of different occasions in any one year and usually where the premises is a dedicated theatre. The fee for this licence is £113.00.

An occasional licence is usually applied for when only one or two plays take place in any one year, for example in a church hall or community centre. The fee for such a licence is £26.00 for a week or part of a week and £50.00 for eight days to one month.

The fee must accompany the completed application form. On receipt of the application and fee the Licensing Office send a copy of the application to the Council’s Building Control Officer, The Greater Manchester County Fire Officer and also to The Greater Manchester Police, asking for inspections and comments.

When the Licensing Officer has been informed by the above bodies that the premises have been inspected and are satisfactory then the licence will be issued.
