Music Theory
All grades taught by Mr Trimble
Theory lessons are provided free of charge to pupils who are of Grade 3 practical standard or above, and who attend Arts Centre Groups. Tuition is offered up to Grade 5 only. Please note both theory classes are specifically for pupils who have instrumental lessons and have taken Grade 3 or working towards Grade 4 on their instrument. Within the two hour time frame the core focus of support will be grades 1 to 3 between 4.30pm and 5.30pm followed by grades 4 and 5 between 5.30pm and 6.30pm.
Beginner Recorder Ensemble
Conducted by Miss Hubble
This group is open to recorder players who have nearly reached the end of John Pitts Recorder from the Beginning Book 1.
Baby Pans
Led by Mrs Mancini
A new group introducing younger members to the joys of steel pans. Open to children from school years 1 to 5. Children with a passion for making music, but not necessarily with any previous musical experience are welcome to attend.
Junior Steel Pans
Led by Mrs Mancini
Open to children from school year 6 and above. Drum kit and percussion players are also very welcome to attend.
Community Steel Pans
Led by Mrs Mancini
A community group to get families playing together, the group is open to children and their parent / carer.
Please contact the MAPAS office on 0161 778 0256 to make sure a places are available for both the Community and Junior Steel Pan groups. Please do not just turn up.
Senior Recorder Ensemble
Conducted by Mr Lee
The entry requirement for this group is that the player has completed the John Pitts recorder book one. A lot of primary school children are encouraged to take up the recorder and we felt we needed to offer them performance opportunities outside their school environment. This group has performed at the Manchester Youth Prom on stage at The Bridgewater Hall.
Guitar Club
Led by Mr Johnson and Mr Waddecar
This group is open to anyone who plays the guitar. This group is open to all guitarists who receive instrumental guitar lessons. Acoustic, electronic and bass guitars are used. The group plays a variety of styles: rock, pop, folk and joins other groups for performances and shows. This group also has a good social life!
Rock and Pop Academy
Led by Mr Day
This group is open to all budding pop musicians. Last year a part of the group were involved in writing, composing and performing their own music as part of a scout challenge.
Junior Theatre Company
Led by Mrs Boardman
These groups are open to primary school pupils who are interested in acting. Progression from these groups is the Senior Youth Theatre Company. To book a place please contact Sarat Broughton on 0161 778 0257.
Senior Youth Theatre Company
Led by Miss Broughton
This group is open to all high school pupils who wish to improve their acting skills. As well as putting on regular shows we also encourage students to take national theatre study exams to help them progress in their chosen field.
Padraig Folk Group
Led by Mr Johnson and Miss Hubble
This group is open to all players grade 2 upwards to have a keen interest for Irish folk music.
Community Choir
Directed by Mr Trimble
An adult choir for which there is no audition just a love of singing. A variety of genres of music are sung from Thomas Tallis Madrigals to modern day medleys. Men in particular are always very welcome - you can never have enough tenors and basses.
