Topographical Surveys

The Land Survey Section is based in the Engineering Design Section and provides a wide range of surveying and mapping services to all departments of the council and other clients. We have completed surveys for many projects including new road schemes, buildings, environmental improvements, bridges, etc.

The Land Survey Section is equipped with the latest electronic surveying equipment to enable fast, accurate topographical and engineering surveys to be undertaken. All drawings are produced using AutoCAD - the industry standard CAD software - allowing output in AutoCAD formats or as a plot on paper or film.

On site a Leica TCRP1205 Robotic Total Station is used and the information is recorded directly into a data logger. In the office the data is downloaded to a computer where it is processed using Terramodel/Key TerraFirma surveying software. The processed data is then imported into AutoCAD to create the final drawings.

The software can be used to create a 3D digital ground model that can be used by other software such as MOSS or PDS.

Surveys recently completed by us have included large and small highway construction schemes, bridges, land reclamation, resurfacing of roads, new buildings, environmental improvements, checking finished construction levels, cross-sections, setting out and many other surveys both large and small.

Combining the latest computer software and surveying technology we provide a variety of services in the surveying, mapping and CAD fields.
