Trees and Development Supplementary Planning Document

The Trees and Development Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) has been prepared to give information to all those involved in the development process about the standard that the Local Planning Authority requires for new development proposals with specific reference to the retention and protection of trees.
This SPD expands on the policies of the City's Unitary Development Plan (UDP) which was adopted in June 2006. The SPD does not have the same status as the development plan but, is a material consideration in the determination of planning applications.
The provisions of this SPD will be implemented primarily through the development control process and the determination of planning applications and applications relating to trees in Conservation Areas and trees protected by a Tree Preservation Orders (TPO).
The Trees and Development Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) was adopted by the council on 19 July 2006.
Please note, the policy numbers listed in paragraph 1.4 (page 4) of the SPD have been revised due to the Adoption of the Unitary Development Plan in 2006. These are now:
- EN12 (not EN9) Important Landscape Features
- EN13 (not EN10) Protected Trees
- DES11 (not DES13) Design Statements
A number of UDP policies were not saved beyond 21 June 2009. This included DES11.Further information can be found on the saved policies page.
