UDP Policy E5: Development in Established Employment Areas

Development Control Practice Note

This Development Control Practice Note expands on Policy E5 of the Unitary Development Plan (UDP), which provides a policy framework against which proposed developments within established employment areas should be assessed.

The Practice Note sets out how the city council will assess applications for non-employment development within established employment areas and seeks to assist prospective developers in gaining a better understanding of the requirements of Policy E5. The Practice Note focuses primarily on the following issues:

  • further clarification of the areas/sites to which Policy E5 applies
  • the evidence that prospective developers should submit in order to demonstrate compliance with criteria 1 and 2 (a to d) of Policy E5
  • the relationship between Policy E5 and Policy MX1 (Development in Mixed-use Areas) of the UDP and how the former will be applied in areas of the city covered by Policy MX1

The Practice Note was adopted by the council on 12 February 2007. It will be replaced by the Established Employment Areas SPD which is currently being produced. If you would like a printed copy of the note, please contact Spatial Planning on 0161 793 3782 or email plans.consultation@salford.gov.uk. Copies are available free of charge.
