Unitary Development Plan (UDP)

The Unitary Development Plan (UDP) is a statutory document that sets out the council's planning policies that will be used to guide development, conservation, regeneration and environmental improvement activity in Salford.
Decisions on planning applications must be made in line with the UDP, unless there are clear material considerations which dictate why this should not be the case.
The City of Salford Unitary Development Plan 2004 - 2016 was adopted by the city council on 21 June 2006, but a number of policies contained within it expired on 21 June 2009.
Policies that have been saved beyond 21 June 2009 can be viewed via this website. They are contained within the Plan's Written Statement.
An interactive UDP proposals map containing the saved policies is also available to view.
For more information on the processes that were involved in the saving of UDP policies, and the associated documents, visit our Saving Policies page.
It is still possible to view the full UDP Written Statement as adopted on 21 June 2006. The document may also be downloaded at the foot of the page.
The UDP underwent an extensive process of public consultation and examination over a period of seven years. Details of these stages of development can be seen at the Stages of UDP Review.
Conservation Area Boundary Revisions
Salford City Council is currently undertaking appraisals of all the city's conservation areas. Boundary revisions have been made to the following Conservation Areas:
- Barton-upon-Irwell Conservation Area
- Worsley Village Conservation Area
- The Cliff Conservation Area
- The Crescent Conservation Area
You can download details of the revised boundaries that should now be considered when applying policies CH3 and CH4 of the Unitary Development Plan at the bottom of the page.
