Using your library

Membership

It is easy to join Salford libraries - no proof of address is required. Simply fill in a form at any library and you will be issued with a membership card, which you should bring with you each time you visit. Copies of the membership forms can be dowloaded from the foot of this page.

This card gives you free internet access and allows you to borrow a range of books, DVDs, audiobooks and language tapes from any of our 16 libraries.

You must not allow anyone to use this card, and if you lose it, please tell us immediately as you are responsible for anything issued on it.

PIN

A four-digit number (PIN) is allocated to each library member. You can change this number, just ask library staff for help.

Your PIN, along with your library card number, allows you to logon to the self-service PCs that some of our libraries offer.

You can logon to your library account from any computer connected to the internet, check what you have on loan, renew items (as long as no-one else has reserved them), and place reservations.

Children's membership

A parent or guardian must sign the form, and give consent for internet use. Find out more details about joining for children and young people.

Loan periods and charges

Items can be loaned for the following time periods:

  • Books - three weeks
  • Audiobooks - three weeks
  • DVD - one week
  • Language tape - three weeks

Renewals

You can renew books and other items up to three times, if they haven't already been reserved by another library member.

Online:

  • Login to the 'My Account' section of the library catalogue (you will need your library card number and PIN to do this)
  • Tick the loans that you wish to renew
  • Press the 'Renew Loan' button

By telephone:

You can telephone any library in the city of Salford give your name and address, and a member of library staff will renew your loans for you.

Reservations

Use our online reservations service to reserve items from any computer connected to the internet. Library staff will contact you when the item is available for collection. Alternatively just tell library staff what you want and they will make the reservation for you.

Reservations are free if the item is in stock in Salford libraries, but if we have to borrow the item from another authority or from the British Library, there will be a charge for this service.
