Roadside recovery vehicle

Vehicle Management Services' (VMS) mission is to provide an efficient and effective transport and plant management organisation with high standards of quality to Salford City Council as a whole and to its user departments at a cost which demonstrates best value.

This service covers items such as:

  • Vehicle procurement and replacement programme
  • Service and repair engineering
  • Vehicle service scheduling and administration
  • Fuel management
  • Administration of accidents and insurance
  • Monitoring of approved drivers
  • Vehicle and plant recovery and roadside assistance
  • Vehicle and plant disposal
  • Class 4, 5 light and 7 MOT testing
  • Inspection of Hackney Carriage and Private Hire vehicles
  • Vehicle and plant hire

Summary of service provided

Transport and plant management is an extremely diverse and heavily legislated industry. Constant changing technology means the Vehicle Management Services staff are always required to develop their skills and knowledge. VMS has a critical role in the delivery of most services within Salford City Council, for example, keeping vehicles mobile 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Our promises to you

Opening times

24 hours: Monday from 6.30am to Friday at 10.00pm.

Emergency hours: outside normal working hours.

Blacksmiths

VMS also has a team of blacksmiths that are responsible for carrying out repairs and maintenance to the cities 65 play areas, together with the fabrication of ornate gates and fencing and almost anything connected to steel and metal work.

Horticultural fitters

VMS's horticultural fitters are responsible for the maintenance of grass mowing equipment and plant machinery. This includes tractors, large tractor drawn mowers, ride-on mowing equipment, pedestrian mowers, hand held powered equipment, dumper trucks, mini excavators and vehicles.
