Tackling Violent Crime Programme
Salford is participating in the national Tackling Violent Crime Programme.
Violent crime includes a range of offences, from assaults resulting in no physical harm to serious offences of rape and murder.
Violent crime has fallen by 14% in the North West since 2003/04 and the Tackling Violent Crime Programme seeks to reduce that further to minimise the harm it causes to individuals and to society.
In Salford we are running a number of projects under the programme:
- Trading Standards and the police are targeting licensed premises that are selling alcohol to underage young people
- Trading Standards are investigating web based sales of alcohol, knives and reproduction firearms to young people
- The police are running Domestic Violence Enforcement Campaigns at weekends and over the Christmas period to deal effectively with incidents of domestic abuse
- Safety messages will be rolled out to remind young people of the consequence of drug and alcohol misuse.
