Correct usage of 'city' and 'City'
Care must be exercised over the use of the 'city' on web pages or other media. Except where the word city is used as a proper name or at the start of a sentence, 'city' should ALWAYS be entered in lowercase - that is, no initial capital.
| DON'T say | "There is a community plan for the City of Salford which means that ..." |
| DO say | "There is a community plan for the city of Salford which means that ..." OR "There is a community plan for the city which means that ..." OR "There is a community plan for Salford which means that ..." |
Salford City Council
The correct title for the council is 'Salford City Council'. 'City of Salford' must NEVER be used when referring to the city council.
| DON'T say | "The City of Salford is responsible for collecting council tax." |
| DO say | "Salford City Council is responsible for collecting council tax." |
