Correct usage of 'city' and 'City'

Care must be exercised over the use of the 'city' on web pages or other media.  Except where the word city is used as a proper name or at the start of a sentence, 'city' should ALWAYS be entered in lowercase - that is, no initial capital.

DON'T say "There is a community plan for the City of Salford which means that ..."
DO say "There is a community plan for the city of Salford which means that ..."
OR
"There is a community plan for the city which means that ..."
OR
"There is a community plan for Salford which means that ..."

Salford City Council

The correct title for the council is 'Salford City Council'.  'City of Salford' must NEVER be used when referring to the city council.

DON'T say "The City of Salford is responsible for collecting council tax."
DO say "Salford City Council is responsible for collecting council tax."
