When will my pages appear on the live website?

New pages and content updates are usually published to the live web server within ten minutes of your workflow being approved.

This means all new pages and any content area changes will be available on the live site almost immediately. What will not be published at that stage is the left side navigation links on any corresponding pages (usually sibling or parent pages of the one created). Those links will be published from 7.00pm onwards the same day. Due to the size of this website (over 9,000 pages!) the nightly publication takes several hours and usually finishes in the early hours of the morning.

The staging server

When you create or edit web pages for salford.gov.uk, they are published to what is known as a 'staging server'. The staging server enables you to view the objects you are publishing in a "safe environment" prior to the public being able to access or view them.

I've created a page but it hasn't appeared on the live site yet!

For a page to be scheduled for publication to the live server it must have completed the workflow cycle and have been approved for publication (see quality control).

I've got an urgent page update! Can you do anything for me?

Of course! Talk to the web team and we'll arrange for an additional replication to take place to suit your requirements.

I need a particular web page to appear at a specific time. Can you fix that?

Yes. One of the benefits of using a content management system is that we can set web pages to appear on the live server at a given date and/or time (and to disappear too). Contact the web team if you wish to arrange a time-sensitive page.
