To get help from the Wheelchair Service you must:
- Be a permanent resident of Salford, and/or have a Salford GP
- Have a disability which affects your ability to walk
If you are not sure whether you qualify for help, contact the Wheelchair Service anyway on 0161 607 1499. If they can’t help you, they will put you in touch with people who can.
How long does it take to get a wheelchair?
- If you need a wheelchair or special seating, you will be offered an appointment for an assessment at the Wheelchair Service within 10 weeks
- Once you have been assessed you will be able to take your wheelchair away with you, if one is in stock
- If it needs to be ordered from the manufacturer, you can expect to receive it within 6 to 8 weeks
How much does a wheelchair cost?
- Once you have been assessed, Salford Wheelchair Service is completely free.
- If you prefer, you may be able to have your wheelchair allowance in the form of vouchers, to put towards buying your own wheelchair. The Wheelchair Service can advise you about this.
