Winton SNAP

Winton SNAP week

Five arrests for drugs offences, 75 litter picks, 75 pieces of graffiti removed, 17.5 tonnes of bulky waste collected and 235 homes assessed for fire risks... these are just a few examples of the activities that took place during Winton SNAP week.

In February 2009 organisations responsible for delivering services in the areas came together to focus on local problems in Winton. Priorities were identified by local residents and officers working in their area.

You told us...

You wanted us to address anti-social behaviour and crime blighting the area around Sutherland Street – we organised for alley gates to be installed.

You wanted bulky items such as fridges, sofas and washing machines - removed from your homes – we organised a collection for you to get rid of all those unwanted items.

You wanted the area around Old Fold near Monton Bridge cleaning up – we organised a clean-up operation led by the Community Payback team to smarten up the area.

You wanted items of graffiti removed - we removed them. You asked for additional policing to address alcohol related anti-social behaviour - we brought in additional police officers and deployed them in known anti-social behaviour hotspots.

A successful week

A great deal of positive community work took place during SNAP week. Residents were able to take advantage of the range of services involved throughout the week and speak to a number of specialists. We hope that all the action has a lasting effect on the Winton neighbourhood and has made the area a better place to live.

Remember it is vital that you work with us in reporting crime and local issues so we can continue to make Winton a safer place to be, targeting crime and anti-social behaviour and building links across the community.
