Exciting Events for Worsley Festival 2011!

Worsley events group volunteers have once again been working hard to deliver a fantastic fortnight of summer events.

Saturday 16 July
The boat rally weekend on the canal bank (Rhubarb Park). There will be various stalls from cakes to knitted items and various local art clubs will be exhibiting their work. "Queen Victoria" will arrive by boat and the theatre group "Walk the Plank" will be there as well. During the day food can be obtained from the Worsley methodist chapel on Barton Road. An evening folk concert will be held with a supper of pasties and peas.

Sunday 17 July
The stalls and boats will again be present along the canal. Champagne and strawberries will be on sale. We have a combined church service at the monument on Worsley Green at 2.30pm followed by a street party (bring your own food and chair and we hope to provide music).

Monday 18 July
Town women's guild choir in the court house. For tickets contact Mrs Wadsworth on 01942 884296.

Tuesday 19 July
Evening cruise on The Bridgewater Canal with buffet and bar. The maximum number on board will be thirty and the cost will be £15 per head. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Wednesday 20 July
2.00pm to 4.00pm, Worsley methodist chapel, Barton Road. Kurling.
£1 including refreshments, please pay at the door.

Wednesday 20 July
"Under 16s Showcase" in the court house. If you have a musical talent come along and share it with us.

Thursday 21 July
Morning cruise with the Bridgewater heritage boat company leaving from near the hump back bridge at 11.00am, coming back to Worsley Methodist Chapel at around 1.00pm to 1.15pm for lunch. Maximum number on board is thirty and tickets must be purchased in advance.

Friday 22 July
A Lancashire night with "Hanky Park". Ticket details will appear here when available.

Monday 25 July
Salford hospitals' choir in the court house. The concert starts at 7.30pm and the ticket price is £5 per person.

Tuesday 26 July
Summer tea dance at Worsley Methodist Chapel, 2.00pm to 4.00pm. Tickets are £3 per person including refreshments.

Wednesday 27 July
Coffee morning, 10.00am to 12.00pm, in the court house in aid of the "Lifeboat Society". Evening quiz night in the court house, 7.30pm to 10.00pm. Entry is £2.50 per person, six members maximum per team.

Thursday 28 July
"Hotel Chocolat" a sumptuous chocolate evening learning about and tasting chocolate! Ticket price is £5.00 per person, starting at 7.30pm.

Saturday 30 July
We have been trying to bring back our "Concert on the Green" and we are working with Salford City Council to try to achieve this. There will be conditions we have to meet and we hope everyone will understand and abide by these conditions. Further information will be published at a later date.

Sunday 31 July
An afternoon concert of light music given by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

Boothstown Wobble fun run

Bridgewater Canal 250th Anniversary Event
Back again for 2011, the famous Boothstown wobble fun run organised by Boothstown residents’ association, is scheduled to take place on Sunday 12 June. Start and finish (with permission from the club committee) will be at Boothstown Football Club, Bridgewater Park, Amberhill Way, Boothstown.

The main race is approximately 5.5km in length, held over a multi terrain course. There are also two junior supporting races held over shorter courses.

Subject to availability, we are hoping to award trophies and medals containing a unique design to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Bridgewater Canal opening; please note these commemorative items will be available for this year only.

To obtain more information and details of how to enter please go online and look for Boothstown wobble, or look out for posters in local shops. Entry/registration documents will be available soon from local schools, sports/fitness clubs and local libraries.

Boothstown football club is organising a family fun day to be held at the club grounds also on Sunday 12 June, so please join us for a full day of enjoyment, look out for local adverts.

Easter fun!

Gr8 2 16 Programme
This easter, come and join Salford community leisure for some FREE action packed fun for boys and girls aged eight to 16! Worsley and Boothstown community committee is pleased to be supporting local families by funding these sessions again.

  • Monday 4 April to Friday 8 April, 11.00am to 4.00pm
  • Monday 11 to Friday 15 April, 11.00am to 4.00pm
  • At Walkden High School. Please bring your own packed lunch

Five to 12 year olds
In addition, free activities for five to 12 year olds will be provided by Salford play service, including face painting, model building and much more!

  • Friday 8 April and 15 April, 2.00pm to 4.00pm
