Safety and water quality

Canoeing

Safety and Enjoyment are our top priorities at Salford Watersports Centre.

Risk is one of the elements that attracts people to taking part in watersports and adventurous activities. Whilst you can not make these activities completely free from risk, we take a number of steps to ensure that all of our activities are as safe as possible.

The centre is inspected every year by our National Governing Bodies (NGB's). The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and British Canoe Union (BCU) have strict standards that training centres must meet. All relevant policies, procedures and risk assessments must be in place, and the inspection process makes sure that the centre is working to these documents to make sure they provide a safe and enjoyable experience.

We currently hold a 2 year AALA (Adventourous Activities Licensing Authority) license. These licenses are issued on behalf of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) by the Adventurous Activities Licensing Servce (AALS). This scheme ensures that those who provide certain adventure activities to young people under the age of 18 years, will have their safety management systems inspected. Where appropriate, a licence is then issued. Our license number is L6578/R1263.

The centre benefits from modern up to date equipment which is regularly maintained and checked. Equipment is replaced before it reaches the end of its life, so you can be confident that you are developing your skills with some of the best kit around.

Our staff are passionate about the sports that they teach. When they are not at work, they are out there themselves developing their skills. We fully support all of our staff in their training. All activities are lead by fully qualified instructors where appropriate. All of our instructors hold first aid qualifications.
