Equality objectives

The specific duties of the Equality Act 2010 require local authorities to prepare and publish one or more equality objectives at least every four years.

A central aim of developing such objectives is to enable local authorities to meet the general equality duty. These objectives should reflect the most important equality challenges for an organisation, and be based on good evidence. They should be specific, measurable, and published in a manner that is accessible to the public.

Salford City Council reviewed and renewed its objectives in 2019. They are:

  1. Build and sustain an inclusive working environment for all
  2. Better understand, and respond to, the needs of Salford’s diverse communities
  3. Influence others through our procurement and commissioning, regulatory and place making activities to adopt positive practices.
  4. Foster good relations in all our communities of identity

Actions to further each of the objectives will be agreed and we will report annually on our progress.
