Become a foster panel member

We are looking to recruit additional Independent Fostering Panel members.

The fostering panel provides independent oversight of the recruitment, assessment and review of foster carers and makes recommendations on their suitability to foster.

We are keen to create a bigger central list of people who reflect the varied population of Salford and would be particularly interested in talking to people who have:

  • a health background
  • an education background
  • recent/current experience of fostering children
  • a personal experience of having been a looked after child

Our panels take place on Thursdays and are held at our offices in Swinton. Panel members also receive ongoing training.

Good listening and communication skills are needed along with a commitment to be available on a regular basis. Applicants will receive panel paperwork electronically via a tablet.

Independent panel members receive a £75 allowance for each panel they attend. We offer an induction and support programmes to make sure you are prepared and comfortable in taking on this important role.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we would expect you to share this commitment and undertake appropriate checks. Successful applicants will be required to undertake relevant DBS checks and be able to supply details of two referees.

To find out more please contact our Panel Advisor, email Martin Sadler or call him on 0161 686 7852.

We'd love to hear from you!
