Course description:

The session will empower early year’s practitioners to work effectively with newly arrived EAL children and parents. It will highlight the key strategies and principles to build those vital home/school relationships and other important issues such as the use of the mother tongue.

Outcomes:

  • To learn about what the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Guidance states about supporting young children (0-5yrs) and families with English as an additional language
  • To develop a greater understanding of the importance of a seamless transition process and working in partnership with parents and other professionals
  • To raise awareness of the crucial role of the adult in developing and extending children’s communication, language, learning and development
  • To explore different resources and environmental adaptations that can support EAL children and families in the EYFS.
