Course description:

Responsive parenting/caring is crucial for early childhood development and for physical and emotional wellbeing.

Interventions in the critical early days and weeks can help give confidence and skills to develop those close relationships.

This session will help with understanding new research and changes around infant feeding and its influence on brain development.

Outcomes:

  1. Have information about the impact that a close and loving relationship will have on baby’s brain development and wellbeing, and will be able to develop this relationship regardless of feeding method.
  2. Demonstrate the importance of skin to skin.
  3. Outline the role oxytocin plays in supporting brain development and the negative impact of cortisol.
  4. Understand babies cues regarding responsive feeding both breast and bottle
  5. Understand Safe Sleep practices.
  6. Know the research into when to introduce solid foods.
  7. Understand the importance of the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative standards.
