Self-Regulation in the Early Years

Course description:

This course will look at self-regulation in early years children: What it is, how it develops, and what we can do to support children who need help with regulating themselves.

We will discuss the brain development that is associated with self-regulation skills, what a self-regulated child looks like in a setting, and how to spot signs that a child needs more help in developing these skills.

Outcomes:

Practitioners will have a better understanding of the theory behind self-regulation, and the neuroscience that underpins it.

Practitioners will be supported to develop targets for a Play Plan, based on developing a child’s self-regulation skills, which they will be expected to put into practice and review, with the support of fellow attendees.

Course length:

Two sessions - part one is for two hours, part two is for one and a half hours
