Preparing for adult life

The support that you will receive as a young person with special educational needs and/or disabilities should help you to make decisions and develop your skills and qualifications. 

Under the new law, if you have an EHCP you will have greater say in the support you receive and this should help you to achieve your aspirations such as going to university or to work.

When you are thinking about post-16 options, you may want to consider the following:

You'll be involved in putting together a plan for your future. You'll be invited to visit places that you may be interested in joining, and given lots of information about what's available. It's important that you attend the visits and gather information so you can make an informed decision. Teachers, parents, Connexions staff, social workers and many others will give you the advice and guidance you need to help you become as independent as possible and get the help you need.
