Meals

Fresh meals and snacks included, see our meals page for more details and sample menus.

Our environment

Our nursery is all on one level so is easily accessible. Each of the three nursery rooms has its own access to an outdoor play area. The outdoor area provides lots of opportunities to play and explore natural areas such as a large sandpit, mud kitchen, shrubbery and wild meadow area.

Barton Moss also has regular forest school sessions with two fully qualified staff.

Inside the children are busy playing and having lots of fun singing, dancing, being creative, making marks and listening to lots of stories.

Parent partnership

We value parents and carers and provide lots of opportunities to share learning between the home and our nursery.

Parents are welcome anytime and once a month we have a stay and play hour for you and your child. We have two parents’ days in March and October and parties at Christmas, Easter and in summer. We have books and toys for you to enjoy at home and, when it comes to moving on to school, we’ll help you choose and make it easy for your child to settle in.

Key person

Each child will have a key person who give you feedback on how your child has spent their day. They will plan activities based on your child’s interests at the time and we will also plan activities based on what you tell us your child is doing at home.

We use I Connect to keep you updated on your child’s learning and development and share observations, tracking and assessments. You will also be able to share observations from home.

This shared learning will help your child to reach their full potential and have fun achieving this.

We welcome all children and families and have highly qualified staff who can support children with identified needs and specific requirements.

Special needs and/or disabilities

We have a very experienced Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCO) who has developed positive working partnerships with many different professionals in Salford. Some of the professionals we regularly work with are:

  • Physiotherapist
  • Speech and language therapist
  • Communication development workers
  • Occupational therapist
  • Educational psychologist
  • Hearing and visual impairment team
  • Area SEND co-ordinator
  • Speech and Language therapist

We have an experienced, qualified nursery team with a range of childcare qualifications, including working with children with autism and supporting young children’s speech and language development.

If we know your child has additional or complex needs before they start we’ll meet with you as parents/carers to learn about your child, discuss their needs and plan how best to support them.

Our SENCO works closely with the area SENDCO and any professionals who are involved with you and your child. We will contact them, with your permission, invite them to the nursery if necessary and discuss how best to work with them to make sure we are able to meet your child’s requirements.

Nursery staff will also meet with professionals, with your permission, so everyone understands your child’s needs and can help with their development. We’ll share any plans with you and welcome your comments and views to help develop those plans.

Transition

If your child is ready to move to a new nursery room we’ll discuss it with you, introduce you both to your new key person and let your child visit the new room regularly to help them move across.

When it’s time to move on we will link closely with the teachers/professionals of the other nursery or school. We will arrange for the staff from the school or nursery to come and visit our nursery to observe your child and share information about things they like and do not like and their development. We plan transitions carefully to help your child to be ready for the next step in their journey.
