Values based recruitment tool

An important challenge faced by the social care sector is recruiting people with the right values and behaviours to undertake such an important role.

These social care values - including compassion, dignity, integrity, respect and responsibility - are what make the difference in delivery of care and support services.

Skills for Care has been working in partnership with The National Skills Academy for Social Care and MacIntyre, at the request of the Department of Health, to develop a model of values-based recruitment for social care employers.

Unusual activity opportunity for care homes

Eggsploring is a 12-day chick hatching experience available to care homes, work places, schools and nurseries. The experience is very low maintenance and high value. Previous care homes have said it was the best activity for the residents they have ever had and it was amazing to see the residents reaction. Beginning on a Monday, the equipment is set up. The chicks are timed to hatch out on the Wednesday of the first week. There is an over 95 per cent hatch rate so you can guarantee they will have. The residents will see them hatch and be able to hold them whenever they want. On the second Friday, the equipment is collected, together with the chicks should the customer not want to keep them. Most customers do keep the chicks as they will become excellent layers and a source of fresh eggs each day.

For more information, please visit the Eggsploring website where you will find excellent reviews, pictures of the experience or visit the Eggsploring Facebook page.

Eggsloring have special offers running throughout the year for more information please contact them direct on 0781 816 0044.
