You can apply online using the Planning Portal.

Plans

It is important that you provide accurate drawings with sufficient detail to illustrate your proposal. These must be to a recognisable metric scale.

There are requirements for what must be submitted as part of a planning application. These are set out in the council's adopted validation checklist which is available from the link on this page.

Forms

There are different forms for different types of development. It is important that you choose the correct form and fully complete all the sections that are relevant to you. Application forms are available online via the Planning Portal, but please check with us if you are not sure which form to use.

For forms on pre-application and house extension and change of use prior approvals, visit our pre-application advice page.

Fees

The decision to charge for planning applications has been made by Parliament and therefore the scale of fees is the same throughout England and Wales. The fee should be paid when you submit your application. Payment can be made by crossed cheque, payable to Salford City Council or over the telephone on 0161 779 6195.

You can calculate the fee of your planning application using the fee calculator available at the Planning Portal.

Validation checklist

The validation checklist is a document designed to help developers, applicants and individuals identify information required to be submitted in support of a planning application.

The validation checklist explains how to challenge a request for additional information if you consider the request(s) to be unreasonable or unnecessary. We will strive to work with applicants and developers to ensure we only request information that is needed,i.e. material to the decision to be made.
