Latest information about the building control service

The building control team continue to work remotely and there have been some minor changes to the way we deliver services:

Site inspections

Please provide us with as much notice as possible for all inspection requests, but in all cases a minimum of 24 hours notice is required. Please email or call 0161 779 6175 to request a site inspection during this time. All emails and messages left requesting inspections will be personally acknowledged and confirmed by a member of our team.

In line with government advice, building control staff are observing additional precautions to help prevent the risk of spreading coronavirus. Requests for inspections will only be undertaken on the understanding that:

  • Nobody in the building is self-isolating due to a coronavirus infection, the suspicion of an infection or is classed as a vulnerable person.
  • Contractors are to manage their own covid-19 risk assessments and adopt associated safe systems of work on site.
  • All individuals on site must observe the latest government advice relating to social distancing, hygiene recommendations and the wearing of PPE including face coverings. Surveyors will carry out inspections unescorted where it is safe for them to do so.
  • All enclosed areas must be well ventilated prior to and during the inspection with door and windows in the open position.

Please advise a member of our team when booking inspections if any of the above cannot be achieved.

Please note, remote / virtual inspections (for example the use of photographs or video calls) may be appropriate in some instances.

Submitting applications

To avoid any delay in the validation and registration of building regulation applications, all submissions should be made online via the submit-a-plan portal. A member of the building control team will contact you separately regarding payment following submission of your application. Please note we are unable to process postal submissions or payments made by cheque.

General enquiries

You may wish to see if your enquiry can be dealt with on our building regulations pages.

Or alternatively please email with building regulation enquiries. We aim to respond to all enquires relating to building regulations and building control within five working days but there may be occasional delays in exceptional circumstances.

If your enquiry isn’t directly related to building regulations or building control then unfortunately we may not be able to respond. Please ensure you are contacting the correct service within Salford City Council.
