This session will aim to improve school governors’ awareness and understanding of the issues around asylum and refugee children and families.
It will give an overview of the legal status and rights of these families and access to welfare support and wider services. It will highlight the positive impact asylum and refugee children have on schools and communities as well as discussing the particular challenges and vulnerabilities that may occur. It will be an opportunity to ask open questions, find the facts and ensure that your school is doing everything it can to effectively support these children.
