Online safer recruitment course

The School Staffing Regulations 2009 made it a statutory requirement that at least one person on any school recruitment appointment panel has undertaken appropriate safer recruitment training. 

The online course recognised by the Department for Education (DfE) can be accessed via the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) website. Developed in line with the DfE's keeping children safe in education guidance (2014), this training course follows the safeguarding framework for England.

Working at your own pace, you'll learn about:

  • preparing to recruit
  • selecting the right people
  • assessing the risk
  • how to remain vigilant
  • recognising different types of abuse
  • inappropriate behaviour and unsafe practice
  • how to develop appropriate policies and procedures for your organisation.

Once you've successfully completed this course you can download a personalised certificate of achievement.

There is currently a charge of £30 per person for the course so governors should first ask permission from their governing board if they are seeking funding for this training as part of their training and development as a governor.
