Construction works are currently ongoing on Trafford Road between its junction with Hulton Street and the bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal. Works have also extended along The Quays and Ordsall Lane.
To enable the safe construction of the works, traffic management measures have been set up including a temporary 20mph speed limit, lane closures and temporary bans on some turning movements. Traffic management will be altered as the works progress northwards along Trafford Road. Further information about the ongoing works and current and future traffic management measures are included in the newsletter which can be downloaded at the bottom of this page.
The A5063 Trafford Road improvements scheme includes a package of measures to support access to MediaCityUK, Salford Quays and Ordsall. The package includes optimisation of the traffic signals, provision of additional traffic lanes to assist turning traffic, and improved facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.
Salford City Council has secured funding of approximately £20m to facilitate the scheme, with £10.5m secured from Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) Growth Deal Fund, and £4.8m secured from GMCA Mayor’s Cycling and Walking Challenge Fund.
The key scheme objectives are to improve junction capacity to enable continued growth across Salford Quays, and to improve pedestrian and cycling links both along and across the corridor to improve social connectivity to the Ordsall Community and beyond.
The scheme proposals are as follows:
