Polling district review - Swinton Park 1

Notice of interim review of polling district SP1 - Swinton Park 1

In accordance with Section 18c (sub section 1) of the Representation of the People Act 1983, Salford City Council is conducting a review of the polling district Swinton Park 1 [SP1].

The Returning Officer will make representations on a proposed polling station for this polling district.

We welcome representations from electors within the authority area or within a UK Parliamentary constituency which has any part in the authority area on any aspect regarding the council’s proposals for polling districts or polling places.

We also welcome representations from interested persons or groups, particularly those with expertise in disability access issues on the authority’s proposals, the Returning Officer’s representations, or any other matter.

Any persons or bodies making representations should, if possible, provide alternative places that may be used as polling places.

Further details of the current and proposed arrangements are below (including the two maps) and these are also displayed in the main reception area at Salford Civic Centre, Chorley Road, Swinton, Salford M27 5DA.

Representations can be made by emailing elections@salford.gov.uk or in writing to:

    M27 5DA

All representations that we receive will be published and made available for inspection.

The deadline for making representations is 4.30pm on Friday 8 July 2022.

Details of the final proposed arrangements (following receipt of any further representations) will be published on Monday 11 July 2022.

Proposal details:

This review is in relation to the Campbell Road estate located in the east of the existing polling district SP1.

Due to this estate being new and only having one access road, it finds itself some distance from the current SP1 polling station; a temporary cabin situated on Bishop Road.

The proposal is to move the district boundary so that this estate be included in the polling district Swinton Park 6 [SP6]. This will move their polling station to the one situated on Campbell Road which is a shorter distance from the estate.

The current arrangements mean that people living at the back end of this new estate have a 15 to 20 minute walk to their current polling station, whereas the proposed change will cut this time down to around ten minutes and an easier walk.

The streets affected are as follows:

  • Arkwright Way
  • Campbell Road
  • Hargreaves Street
  • Horrocks Lane
  • Jacquard Close
  • Lakefield Gardens
  • Nassau Drive
  • Rolag Crescent

Please find below two maps showing the current and proposed boundaries.
