Caring for someone

Am I a carer?
If you support and care for someone because they have a long-term illness or disability or because they are frail, you are a carer.
It does not matter how old you are. It does not matter what your relationship is with the person you look after.
What help can I get?
Use the links on the left of this page to find out about support you may be able to get. This includes:
- Carers Allowance
- Carers personal budgets
- Council tax discount
- Emergency help scheme
- Employment and volunteering
Princess Royal Trust Salford Carers Centre
The Princess Royal Trust Salford Carers Centre is the first place to call if you are a carer.
Staff at the centre can give you information and advice and tell you about local carers groups. The centre runs some of its own services and can also tell you about other support across the city and about your rights as a carer. You may be able to get:
- Emotional support
- Social events
- Benefits advice
- Buddy and outreach service
- Information, general advice and signposting
- Regular newsletter
- Education and employment advice
All of the carers centres' services are independent, confidential and free to all carers across the city.
Asking Community, Health and Social Care for help
You can also contact us and ask for a carers assessment. This is where we find out what support you may be entitled to. You may also want to ask the person you are caring for if they will have an assessment of their needs.
