Request a building regulation completion certificate or decision notice

Building regulation decision notices and completion certificates are issued to the applicant as proof that the proposed work was approved and the building work is complete. The documents should be retained as insurers, mortgage companies or solicitors may request copies.

Decision notices

Decision notices are issued once a building regulations plan has been checked. A decision notice will only be issued on a ‘full plans’ application.

Completion certificate

Completion certificates are issued once the work is finished and has been inspected by Building Control. A completion certificate will not be issued unless a final inspection has been requested.

Please note

  • The cost per copy is £25 (additional fees may be payable for archived or incomplete applications).
  • You will need to provide your building regulation application reference number. Please search the building control applications if you do not have it. An additional fee of £10 will be incurred if you are unable to provide the reference number.
  • Completion certificates cannot be provided for building regulation applications made prior to 2000.
  • If your building regulation application reference number ends with ‘IN this means your application was processed and inspected by an Approved Inspector – you will need to contact your Approved Inspector for copies of any documentation.
  • We do not have any documentation for competent person schemes, e.g. GASAFE, NICEIC, FENSA, HEATAS, CIGA

This service is for a repeat copy, i.e. where a completion certificate has previously been issued following a final inspection. If you have not had a final inspection please contact the office to arrange (additional fees may be applicable).
