Get rid of a large unwanted item (bulky waste)

Before you ask us to collect an unwanted item, can you get rid of it another way?

Pick up from your home

The minimum cost for a collection will be £48.50 for up to four items of bulky waste, extra items can be collected for an additional cost.

About the collection

  • Items must be left outside the property in an accessible place ready for collection.
  • We aim to remove the items within seven to 14 days of your request, collections usually take place on a Saturday.
  • If you need to cancel or change a collection please call 0161 793 2500.
  • Under new legislation, sofas, chairs, and upholstered seating featuring cushioning or foam must be transported in a dedicated vehicle for disposal through specialist incineration. You must separate this items from other types of waste that requires removal during collection. In the event of requesting the collection of multiple bulky items, the collections will be divided between non-upholstered and upholstered items. This will mean the dispatch of two different vehicles to collect these items.
  • Please refrain from contacting us if only one waste type is removed from the list you supplied, as the remaining items will be collected later or on a subsequent day based on capacity. For more information, visit the GOV.UK web page about waste containing persistent organic pollutants (POPs).
