1.1 The current charges apply when requesting a bulky waste collection:
2.1 Payment can be made by credit or debit card only.
3.1 The council publishes a list of items that cannot be collected on its website.
4.1 Your collection will take place either on the first Saturday after payment has been taken or the Saturday after that.
4.2 Items must be outside for collection by 7am. Do not put the items out before 6.30pm the night before.
4.3 Collections can take place between 7am and 1pm on Saturdays.
4.4 If we haven’t collected on the first Saturday all items must be put out for collection on the second Saturday.
4.5 All items are to be made available and collected from a position outside of the building but within the property boundary, for example, a driveway.
4.6 The customer does not have to be present at the time of collection.
4.7 The customer is responsible for ensuring adequate access to the property for the bulky waste collection. For example, any gates should be left unlocked and dogs should be kept inside the property, parked cars should not obstruct items.
4.8 Wherever possible soft furnishings should be covered to prevent absorption of rainfall which will affect the weight of the items.
4.9 All items for collection must be listed on the order. Unlisted items will not be removed.
4.10 All items must be manageable and safely manoeuvred/carried by two people. Excessively heavy items will be left.
4.11 No item should exceed the maximum lengths indicated (two metres).
4.12 All exposed nails/screws are to be removed, covered or otherwise made safe.
4.13 The bulky waste collection will take place on the scheduled collection date, except in the circumstances listed below at 6.1.
4.14 Under new legislation, sofas, chairs and upholstered seating with cushioning or foam must be collected in a segregated vehicle and be disposed of via specialist incineration. This waste must not be collected with other types of waste. Depending on the items we might need to send two different vehicles to collect your bulky waste.
For more information, visit the GOV.UK web page about waste containing persistent organic pollutants (POPs).
4.15 if any of the upholstered seating with cushioning or foam items is damaged, the tear or exposed filling must be covered and taped before we can collect the item in order to prevent the escape of ‘POPs’.
4.16 In the event of requesting the collection of multiple bulky items, which include a combination of non-upholstered and upholstered items, two different vehicles will be dispatched to collect the two types of waste separately which might be in different times or different days.
5.1 The council accepts no liability for damage to private property as a direct or indirect result of the collection or any failure to collect.
5.2 Residents are encouraged to minimise the potential of damage to their property by ensuring that the items are left outside in a suitable location and within timescales in 4.1.
6.1 The bulky waste collection will be made on the scheduled collection date, except in circumstances outside of our control, for example no access to street, adverse weather, and vehicle breakdown.
6.2 The council reserves the right to refuse to undertake collection if the items are not accessible or are found to be in an unsafe condition for handling. Return visits will incur an additional charge.
6.3 Where a bulky waste collection has not taken place for reasons such as those listed at 6.1, collection will be attempted again as soon as operationally possible.
6.4 If the collection cannot take place for any reason, a calling card will be left at the property to notify the resident eg items not accessible to collect or items unsafe to handle.
7.1 The customer may cancel the order up to 4.30pm on Thursday before the scheduled Saturday delivery date, by calling our contact centre on 0161 793 2500. The payment will be refunded in full.
7.2 Refunds will take up to ten working days to be processed from the date of cancellation.
7.3 Cancellations and refunds will not be permitted in any situation other than those outlined in 7.1.
7.4 In instances where a bulky waste collection has been ordered and the collection cannot take place due to the actions of the customer, for example they are not accessible for collection or they are unsafe to handle, the collection will not be rescheduled and the payment will not be refunded.
