Short term foster care

In many cases we need to see if children and young people can be returned to live with their families, who may need help to overcome short term problems.

This may involve providing care from a few weeks to several months. Foster carers work closely with the social workers and the child's family to contribute to a care plan.

If there are serious concerns about a child's welfare and safety this may also involve the courts in making decisions about the child's future. Some children will return to their families, be placed for adoption, and others may move into long term foster care if they cannot return home.

We also need carers for emergency and short break care. Children may need a foster home at any time and care can be provided from an overnight stay or a weekend, to a few nights, while matters are sorted out more permanently.

Sometimes, existing foster carers need a respite break or may be unable to look after a child due to an emergency in their own family circumstances and an emergency or respite placement is required.
