Developing Skills in Moving and Handling of Children

Salford Paediatric Therapy Team

Session content:

Who is it for?

Those who handle children/young people on a regular basis, including moving on/off the floor, positioning in chairs or help with toileting and changing, within an education, nursery, care or play setting.

This includes those supporting children who require use of equipment such as specialist seating, mobility aids and hoisting.

Topics covered include:

  • An introduction to Health and Safety legislation in the workplace, including an overview of risk assessment
  • Understanding basic principles of movement and the importance of back care
  • Practical techniques, tips and advice for safely supporting children and young people with their moving and handling needs in an education, nursery, care and play environments
  • Safe use of specialist moving and handling equipment

Duration:

Six hours

  • Friday 5 September 2025, 9am to 3pm
  • Wednesday 15 October 2025, 9am to 3pm

Refresher training is also available. Cost is £105 per person. Please contact the team to express interest.

Supporting Deaf Children and Young People in the Classroom

Delivered by:

Teachers of the Deaf from the Learning Support Service

Session content:

This training is members of staff who have or are going to have deaf children or young people in their class or have an interest in deaf education.

Duration:

Two hours 30 minutes

  • Session 1: 9.30am to 12pm
  • Session 2: 1.30pm to 4pm
