Adaptive Teaching - high quality inclusive teaching

This session is aimed at supporting school staff to develop their understanding of Adaptive Teaching strategies, exploring how they can be used to support children and young people in class. Throughout the session, delegates will discuss current research about adaptive teaching and how this links to teaching standards and the SEND CoP. Delegates can be given the opportunity to discuss key concerns and how best to support using examples of practice from local settings.

Collective Responsibility

Effective use of in class support (TA/LSA)

This session is aimed at teaching staff at all stages of their career. It is also beneficial training for Teaching Assistants / Learning Support Assistants to support pedagogy around the role. The session covers the TA standards, different layers of support (EEF) along with practical guidance on supporting within the classroom.

Exam Access Arrangements

This session is aimed at secondary school and post-16 staff to understand the role of the SENCo in access arrangements. The session will cover any changes to JCQ guidelines for the year, relevant forms and JCQ inspections. This session can be delivered face to face, downloaded for self-led delivery and is also available as a narrated download on the SEND Teams network.

Getting to grips with SEN Governance

This session is aimed at SEN link governors, Chair/vice chairs and /or the whole governing body/trust. The session will explore how SEND relates to the 3 core functions of effective governance. Delegates will develop a basic awareness of SEND and consider their strategic role in supporting the development of SEND in school.

SENCO Forum – Primary and Secondary

Session content:

The Salford SENCO Forums provide an opportunity for all SENCO’s across the city to meet face to face to network, receive updates from the local authority and participate in additional CPD. We plan to continue to share LA information, invite key services to share updates, develop a consistency of practice and procedure across our Salford schools, and offer training opportunities where appropriate.

It is our aim that SENDCo’s from both Primary and Secondary settings will meet termly, face to face with potential follow up sessions planned via Microsoft Teams. Age phases will split into smaller groups where necessary.

There is no charge to attend the forum and refreshments will be provided.

An agenda will be shared with each attendee one week prior to the Forum date.

This session will provide an overview of what the SEND graduated approach document is, how it came about and what is covered by the document. There will be opportunities for sharing of good practice exploring both how the document is currently being used and how it can be best used within your setting.

Person Centred Planning - Joint with SEND Leaders

This session will explore what Person Centred Planning is, and some of the barriers and facilitators to working in this way. There will be the opportunity to discuss and share experiences of PCP in your settings, and attendees will leave the session with tips and resources to support their practice, including for Annual Reviews. This interactive session has been informed by research with schools and parent/carers, health and social care in Salford.

Right to Play

Session content:

All children have the right to play. Play looks differently at all ages and includes a range of themes, such as spontaneous, voluntary, unpredictable and enjoyment. This training will look at the intrinsic benefits of play and some common barriers for all children. We will consider some opportunities to support access to play, alongside time for reflection.
