Other housing options that you can explore

It is important that you look at all of your options for rehousing including housing associations and private landlords. Private landlords could include Salix Living and Salford Property Link.

There are other ways of accessing private accommodation. For example, Rent a spare room in Salford, local letting agents in your area and also Facebook Market Place.

There are many websites that you can use to look for properties.

Private housing (a few suggestions):

The Homelessness Prevention Fund

This fund will be able to assist you with the deposit for rented housing.

This fund is an agreement between the landlord and Salford Housing Options Point, it is not a cash deposit. The scheme is available if you have an ongoing homelessness case with your housing advisor. If you find a property that you are interested in (and it does not have to be in the Salford area) and have any questions about this fund, you are advised to contact your Homeless Preventions Officer.

The homelessness prevention fund can cover (for example) your deposit, first month’s rent, assist with the shortfall of rent for the first 6 months of your tenancy whilst looking for employment/benefit options.

Applications will not be accepted from tenant/s who have already entered into a tenancy agreement with a landlord.

  • An application will not be accepted unless you have a verified housing need and a local connection to Salford. Assessment has been completed to verify your housing need.
  • An application will not be accepted unless completed in full and submitted with supporting evidence.
  • An application will be rejected if affordability assessment cannot be completed in full due to lack of information.
  • The property must be affordable and suitable for the household needs. The rental amount must be in line with the local housing allowance rate.
  • Any submitted applications will be responded to in suitable time frame, suitable checks are required before processing an application, checks include affordability assessment and property and landlord checks.
  • Property safety certificates will be requested, and further checks may be necessary depending on the property type.
